Compensation
Base Salary
Hilcorp pays competitive base salaries to attract and retain talented employees. To ensure our program remains current, we compare our pay levels to peers in our industry and adjust our salary ranges to reflect the changing market. Each year, all employees’ salaries are formally reviewed.
Bonus Program
The Bonus Program provides the opportunity for employees to earn a percentage of their base salary if Hilcorp reaches its annual operational and financial goals. Working as an owner at Hilcorp means each employee has a direct impact on our bonus performance. Our annual target bonus is 30% of base salary with a stretch target of 60%. All employees are rewarded with the same bonus percentage. Employees are informed of how Hilcorp is progressing against annual goals during the company’s monthly open-book management meetings attended by all employees. When Hilcorp wins, we all win.
Buy-In Plan
The Buy-In plan is our unique long-term incentive plan that gives each employee an opportunity to build additional personal wealth directly from the success of Hilcorp projects. There are two ways to participate:
1. Grant Award Program – Hilcorp provides grant dollars each year to participate in Buy-In Plan projects. Upon investment, the employee receives 50% of the monthly cash flow from their investment, with the remaining 50% vesting after 5 years.
2. Cash Participation Program – Employees can invest their own money into Buy-In Plan projects with a 2 year vesting schedule.
BHAGs
Hilcorp sets 5-year Big Hairy Audacious Goals (BHAGs) and uses these to frame its annual plans. The plan also supports Hilcorp’s efforts to retain and recruit the best talent in a competitive environment. The most recent award was $75,000 cash and $25,000 toward charities of each employee’s choice. Previous awards were $50,000 vouchers for a vehicle and $100,000.
