Employee Engagement
Our Employees
At the center of our business model is the self-motivated, innovative, and aligned employee. Employees know that they are valued, full members of the organization, all focused on our collective goals. The evidence of our employee-centric business model is in our high employee retention rate, our consistent ranking as a Top 100 Best Place to Work, and the testimony of our own employees.
Empowering Employees
The key to a fulfilling and successful career is an employee’s access to the information, tools, and authority necessary to achieve clear objectives. Hilcorp employees hold a stake in the company’s success through the Buy-In Program, allowing the opportunity to build additional personal wealth directly tied to company performance.

Our Open Book Management philosophy provides employees with the information they need to make the decisions that will meet our shared objectives. Employees’ expertise, opinions, and innovation are valued, and we encourage every employee to collaborate and share with their co-workers. One-quarter of every employee’s annual performance rating is based on their ability to help develop people and culture. That expectation is backed up by offering over 42,000 training hours each year.
Hilcorp’s empowerment of employees is why Hilcorp has a 3.5% average voluntary turnover rate, one of the lowest in the industry.
Because we place a priority on doing the right thing for our people, Hilcorp has never had a layoff.
Hilcorp is a Top Place to Work
Hilcorp is recognized consistently as a great place to work by publications such as FORTUNE Magazine, the Great Place to Work Institute, the Houston Chronicle, and more.
Diversity & Inclusion
Each year, Hilcorp participates in the Great Place to Work Institute’s Trust Index Survey to receive feedback from our employees on how Hilcorp can get better, and we implement changes across the organization. For ten years, we have been rated a Top 100 Best Place to Work in the country.

Safety
Hilcorp’s most important priority is the well-being of our employees, contractors, and local communities. We strive to be incident free and empower our employees to take responsibility for their safety and the safety of those around them. In addition to regular Job Safety Analyses (JSA’s), we engage in daily conversation to promote attentiveness on the job and to discuss job scope, daily tasks, safety processes, and potential risks and hazards.

Training
Training is essential to building our safety culture. In 2022, our field employees completed over 23,000 hours of Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) training. However, learning is not confined to the classroom. Employees participate in boot camps and mock live drills throughout the year, as well as monthly meetings where incidents and near misses across the company are discussed. Learning from every incident is how we improve.
Our contractors are held to the same high safety expectations. Contractors are included in our daily and monthly safety meetings. We require all contractors to have an EH&S plan that addresses risk specific to the work they perform. In addition, periodic contractor safety workshops are held by Hilcorp to train, review safety metrics, and reinforce our expectations
Measuring Performance
Aligning employees with our safety goals is critical. Each year, a safety target is set and progress towards it is shared with every employee in the company on a monthly basis. Hilcorp’s Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR) was 0.85 incidents per 200,000 hours worked in 2022. This compares to a company average of 0.59 and an industry average of 0.68 over the last five years.
