Hilcorp has an established track record of improving the emissions profile of asset once they come under our operatorship. In the San Juan Basin (New Mexico and Colorado), we have taken extensive steps which have resulted in a 58% reduction in Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHG) compared with a 2016 baseline prior to our acquisition.
Methane reduction has been our primary focus in the basin. Our efforts follow a three-tier hierarchy:
- Eliminate – remove the emissions source altogether (or convert to zero-emissions). In 2022 alone, we removed 12,000 pneumatic devices from operations in San Juan.
- Capture – Capture methane before it is released into the atmosphere.
- Optimize – Optimize operations to minimize emissions. We have implemented a basin-wide Leak Detection and Repair (LDAR) program to find and fix leaks quickly.
